  • @goatface1000 Silly. He wrote plays to entertain; to put bums on seats, in this he has won unprecedented success: 400 years later they still fill the theatres. His playwriting was his JOB (I have heard it said that the sonnets were his real love). As any professional today so was he bound to please his patrons in order to retain his livelihood, basically, the royalty was his Arts Council - The difference being that we don't get executed today if funders feel our subject matter insulting.
