Despite the ravages of natural disaster and slow global economic recovery St. Lucia recorded positive economic growth in the fiscal year 2010.
The disclosure was made by Prime Minister Stephenson King during the presentation of the 2011-2012 estimates of revenue and expenditure on Thursday. Some are questioning the methodology used to arrive at the GDP figures in the budget after a 0.5 percent figure from the Ministry for Finance was used by the Prime Minister during his first address to the nation earlier this year.
Now the Department of Statistics which crunched the GDP data used in this year's budget is clarifying the difference between growth and what is called welfare.
WOW. That's awesome. St. Lucians are richer in 2011.
