This is a quick video to show the process I went through to create a very nice soap with lavender flowers embedded in it. The soap is made with milk (heavy whipping cream) and then palm oil, coconut oil, soybean oil and cocoa butter. I added Vitamin E, Peach coloring and Lotus Blossom fragrance after the soap reached trace.

  • I went to your site and tried to figure out how to read your lye calculator. I'm not sure how to read it. If the range is between 4.2 oz and 3.8oz I should try for 4 oz and stay in the middle?

  • @lil5firecracker5 if you mean the amount lye is between 4.2 oz and 3.8 oz... if you want a harder bar that might be a little more harsh you would use closer to 4.2 oz... if you want a milder bar that might be a little soft (though most likely not if you use coconut and palm oil) then closer to 3.8 oz.

Using 4.2 oz of lye means you want to convert ALL off the oil to soap. Using 3.8 oz means you want to leave some oil behind to give a little moisturizing effect for the skin.

  • I dont really understand, why you need so many types of oils, is that not unnecessary? If I want to keep it simple can I just use olive oil and lye and some essential oil for scenting? A noob asking :)

  • @orgay3 you can but the soap will be soft... the different types of oils give the soap different qualities... palm and coconut oil make the soap firm... olive oil makes it good for the skin... caster oil makes nice bubbles... etc etc

But there is nothing that would prevent soap being made from just olive oil and lye

  • should the coconut oil be fractionated?? Im about to make my 1st batch-please help.

  • I've used them both and have not found a difference between the two. So, I don't think it matters.

  • I really liked your video, however the music drowned you out a bit and it annoyed me. Just positive criticism :)

  • Loose the random volume music on these videos - so annoying!!

  • This has been one of the most thorough explanations I've seen yet. Most demonstrations leave me confused because of the editing.

  • In the video you only ad Palm, Coco oil, Soybean oil and Coco butter... but the metaphysical farms calculator shows you added beeswax and castor oil..... Did I miss something?
