The video for Birgit Bidder's first single "Parking Lot Paradise", due for UK release on 9 August, was shot during a rainy night in Botkyrka, Sweden, following a script she wrote herself. With borrowed cameras, furniture and a truck, friends of Birgit and Swedish pop photographer Martin Norberg helped the pair direct and produce the video themselves using inventive and low cost solutions.
Among other creative ideas they shot the opening scene in a diner near Birgit's former apartment, in the suburbs of Stockholm, the sofa and band scene inside the truck and car lamps and wardrobe lights were used as lighting.
For Birgit Bidder everything has to have a meaning and the video is filled with small personal methaphors to discover if you listen to her story and lyrics. The extras are not strangers but musicians who participate on Birgit Bidder's upcoming debut album "The Life Home". Look for Magic Gunnarsson, the "guy with the saxophone", who is both featured on Birgit's album and often joins her live shows.
The lead role as "The Love" is played by Joakim Sundholm, an ex-model and friend of Birgit, who she knew looked and could act like the person about whom this song is written.
This is how Birgit describes the making of the video:
"Absolutely insane. Neither me or Martin really knew what we were getting ourselves into. We never would have made it without our beautiful friends who helped us all night in the pouring rain with no sleep guided by two emotionalists who's never worked with film! We followed our vision and are very happy with the result. Can't wait to make another one!"
