These are the beautiful, smooth and fast MARINE elevators on the worlds 2nd largest cruise ship, Freedom of the Seas. The ship is operated by Royal Caribbean International and was built in 2006. It was built in Finland by Aker Yards in Turku. The ship is 1,500 ft long and 150 feet wide. Since it was built in Finland, it has beautiful Finnish elevators. These seem similar to the W Hotel in Buckhead Atlanta.

  • wow! it goes all the way down to deck 1??? the lowest place on the ship!

  • Well Deck 1 is where the passenger gangways are for when the ship is in port. Deck 1 also has the main service corridor for the ship. But Deck 1 is not the lowest place, on the ship, there is Deck 0 and the tween deck, which house crew cabins, crew areas, mechanical equipment, laundry facility, master engine control room, general and food storage, sewage treatment plant and the main engines.

  • i believe there are more decks below deck 1 if deck 1 is above the waterline

  • Yes, Deck 1 just above the waterline. Deck 0 and tween deck are below the waterline.

  • do they change the carpet every day?

  • Yes they do.

  • They are the exact same size, 1,112 ft, The Oasis class is bigger.

  • what about liberty of the seas or independence of the seas. Their both a bit bigger than freedom

  • I know, thats all true.

  • If you look at the QM2, it has less usable space, hence that is where the gross tonage comes in. The majority of the front and aft of the ship comes at a slant and is considered unusable space. Its like the empires state building adding a needle at the top to claim its temporary title of tallest building in the world. The Freedom of the seas is heavier, wider and longer when usable space is concerned that is why its heavier, can hold more passengers and has more squarefootage of interior space
