I didn't subject' Tales of' fans to a shit game like this, so I'd say I've already done better.
-
Screw you dude, it's a fan-game, and besides it's not like YOU can do any better.
-
If you mean where the finished game is, it's actually almost done.
I'm going to be releasing a "Beta" of the full game later today, actually. I use the term Beta since there may be some bugs, etc, that I need my testers to sort out, but if you want to participate then I'll let you know ASAP.
-
I'll be the first to admit that Ocean isn't amazing, and it's certainly not "original" in terms of core gameplay, but so what? It's the first game I've ever tried to make and nobody knows instinctively how to make amazing things; they do it through trial and error and perseverance.
I intend to learn from whatever mistakes I made in this project for future ones, experimenting with different makers and programs until I get something right, because I just happen to have fun doing stuff like this.

Dude, I've seen even original Flash-based rpgs that have better battle systems than this. You COULD have even used RPG Maker - but you didn't bother to make something original. And that's precisely why I hate the RPG Maker community in general, it promotes stagnation, a complete lack of original creation by reusing art.
-
In regards to music, it was because I didn't have any original music at the time. Now that I do, I've removed all the Tales music from it. Simple as that.
And considering that I'm a beginner at game making in general, don't you think it makes more sense for me to start off with something simple like RPG Maker so I can get some basics before I move onto something bigger, like actual programming? There's no point diving into the deep end if you can't swim in the shallow one.
-
"You clearly..."
So why did you post a demo where you use ripped off music? And the game does look like crap - Tales skills do not translate well into AT system/turn based systems since they usually mostly differ on combo count and hitbox.
"Secondly, this is RPG Maker 2003."
Good games are usually made from something that requires more effort, like actual programming. RPG Maker promotes the creation of easy-to-make crap.
-
You clearly haven't even played the game to know if it's crap or not. If you had, you'd know that we have our own original music now.
Secondly, this is RPG Maker 2003. It takes a lot more knowledge than I possess to make a Tales-style battle system with it. If you know how to do it, by all means teach me.
Thirdly, this is just a tribute fangame that I have made purely for fun. Nothing more.
If you have criticism at least make it constructive. Otherwise, keep your complaints to yourself.
hey Serap ;D are you going to make tales of the ocean part 31??.........just want to know ^^

There's no real need. The game itself is pretty much done (I just need to iron out the bugs, hence why I'm releasing beta's) so everything beyond Part 30 is in the Beta Versions themselves. I think that the players should discover the last part of the game for themselves, because a *lot* happens in it.
