Also, if the family tree is not able to cope with children who come from traumatizing backgrounds, therapeutic foster homes can stabilize a child to a point where said child is ready for adoption or re-entry into some branch of their natural family. While watching this video, please, don't think foster homes are a 'warehouse' for children. Comparatively speaking, foster homes provide stability, rules, and therapy so that a troubled child can become functional.

Kinship care doesn't work out most of the time. It is not always the relative's fault, because often they are simply 'dumped' with children who have been abandoned and all that entails. Other times, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and the family history isn't properly researched and the children end up in foster care and by that time are 'damaged'. Kinship care can be a saviour, but it needs to be done properly... not just to get the children off the social services budget.
