  • hi, i'm a 4th Dan Tae Kwon-Do instructor and I used exactly these 3 in a class recently which went down very well

the only problem was that when a student pulled away a little further than expected, the defendant found it difficult to keep control or execute the manoever. otherwise it was a near perfect and effortless set of moves

respect and, please keep them coming.

  • @darkedge3 I'm glad you found them helpful. I'll try to get some more up soon. Thanks again for watching.

  • Wait a minute I just noticed something. At 1:21, you only grab him by the elbow. If he was trying to pull away, couldn't he theoretically get his arm away? Wouldn't you be better off grabbing his wrist and then proceeding with the hip throw? I only took a little judo, but he taught us to throw by holding the wrist to ensure you have sufficient grip strength.

  • The problem is that you believe your grip strength is what keeps the opponent's arm. It's not. In fact, I don't use a grip. That is, my thumb does not grip at all. I use my entire arm to grab from his elbow to his hand, pinning it between my body and arm. My hand cups the elbow joint, making it difficult for him to pull away from me. If you grab the wrist, he can easily escape. Good question though.

  • Excellent explanation...you really have great communicating skills = great instructor.

  • In his defense....Blase has since embraced his hairloss. He now shaves it bald and has grown a gotee. He's quite the imposing site now.

  • I'm a judoka, but i respect that bjj self defense takedowns take into account 2 things:

    - no gi grips

    - positioning to protect from strikes
