  • Thank you all for your nice comments. I have gotten many e-mails on how to best get the book-Taking control: Living with the Mitral Valve Prolpase Syndrome (3rd edition). It is faster and cheaper to merely send a check or money order to: Kardinal Publishing c/o Dr. Scordo, PO Box 626, Loveland, OH 45140. Total cost is $22.90/book. Usual turn around time is one week from when the order is received. Thanks

    Kris Scordo, PhD, RN, ACNP

  • You can get the book directly from Dr. Scordo at her e-mail address on the first slide. Lots cheaper that way.

  • Great patient teaching tool. Thank you Dr. Scrodo.

  • My doctor told me I had that when I was 15 at the time I was depressed and taking meds, while struggling with anxiety and panic attacks, I had vertigo and low exercise tolerance. I was also smoking cigarettes. I'm 19 now and rarely feel the pain because all I do now is exercise but I'm not depressed or do cigarettes anymore. I still have trouble with my endurance sometimes.

  • i have MVP and i just turned 14, i found out when i was 9. i go for check ups every 16 - 18 months, i am going for my next one September 23rd this year, so in about a month. they always suggest to my parents if they want me to have surgery, my parents said no, they have now given that decision up to me. i was wondering, how many percent of people die from having this surgery?

  • If you have a mechanical heart valve and the noise keeps you awake at night - but you DON'T want to use drugs or narcotics to sleep - you can purchase a non-addictive inexpensive, psychoacoustic audio recording titled "Heartbeat River" at cdbaby.com

  • i was diagnosed with MVP 12 yrs ago after what i thought was having a heart-attack while exercising. However after seeing a cardiologist he said, i was merely having anxiety attacks but when asked how i could have/might have gotten it? he said well if your extremely active (physically) which i was, you might have changed the way your heart is flows & said its pretty common for athletes & olympians to be diagnosed with this. My question is. is this true??? cuz either or i am doing just fine :) ty

  • @maranatha1985 I can really relate to what you are saying...people really don't understand what is like. I have been struggling with dealing with MVP for the last 6 yrs...at first I didn't know what was wrong with me until Feb. 2010 I found out it was MVP... I'm trying to learn to stay calm when I have those heartracing moments!

  • @metgard hi I'm a nursing student with mild mitral valve prolapse.. I guess you too can enroll in nursing depending on the case of MVP that you have. My doctor told me that I have nothing to worry about and there are no restrictions, so he gave me a medical certificate and allowed me to enroll. When I watched this video I was very thankful because it helped me avoid things that did worsen my symptoms..specially caffeine. Good luck on the career that you will be taking up!

  • thank you very much for the information! I am currently a nursing student with a lot of stress going on in my life, i love drinking coffee, i party a lot drinking alcohol nd inhaling cigarette smokes from friends. I was diagnosed of MVP when I was in high school and ignored it because my doctor said it was a mild case and i'll definitely outgrew it. This past few days I experienced easy fatigability, dyspnea, severe palpitations(even at rest), heartburns. Now i know why.

  • @metgard

i am a diagnosed with mvp as well, during college years at a nursing school.... i had thoughts of stopping school, and take a rest from stressful life, but then when i finally had myself medicated by specialist, i decided to continue school, since meds helps alleviate symptoms a lot, though sometimes, it really triggers.. now, i'm a registered nurse and a registered midwife.. but i decided not to work in hospital because it makes me palpitate and exhausted.
