NearSys Smart Proximity Detector

The Smart Proxomity Detector is a intelligent infrared bumper for robots. It's PICAXE-08M takes turns pulsing two infrared LEDs (IREDs) and observing the response of a 38 kHz IR detector. By pulsing the IREDs at a variety of frequencies, the PICAXE is able to detect the relative distance to an obstacle. The messages from the detector indicate if the obstacle blocks only one side of the robot or whether it spans the robot and whether the obstacle is closer on the left or right side.
