@dls2779 phastman1994 is right, Bolt is better suited to 3rd leg than Blake. Blake never runs good bends in the 200m. Your point about the 2nd leg being the longest is invalid. 2nd leg runs 80-200m including acceleration, 3rd runs 180-300m, 4th runs 280-400m. 1st leg only runs 100m (starts in blocks, no acceleration). Bolt can run a sub-10 bend whenever he wants to, Blake can't. Bolt has experience and success on 3rd (double gold). Carter-Blake-Bolt-Powell is by far the best order
@dls2779 True, never in 4x100m history has the fastest sprinter run on 3rd BUT at the same time, never in 4x100m history has the fastest sprinter ALSO been BY FAR the best curve runner on the team.
@dls2779 Oh, well to me it sounded like you were sayin there was competition on the 3rd leg, but moving on.. I understand what ur sayin now but still, putting Gay and Bolt on 3rd results a faster time simply because there curve is literally untouchable, even more so than there top-end speed (as crazy as it sounds). Zurich last year wasn't an important race, if the Americans wanted to experiment they could've put Gay on 2nd or anchor but they didn't, I'm sure they know what they're doin..
@phastman1994 Something to think about..when in history, other then Bolt and Gay did they put the fastest runner in the 3rd leg?Do some research and find out the philosophies of running.I understand how you feel, but to put the fastest runner at 3rd because he could run the curb well is not the best way to use him. Its like putting Asafa first because he has the best start...???But some people do it and it works for them but if they want to break the record...Dont want to keep repeating myself
@phastman1994 I never said that there was competition in the third leg. I said that there was too much competition--never narrowed down to third leg. My argument was, if they were to put Gay at the end with Asafa, most likely, Gay would get the stick after Asafa thus decreasing the likelyhood of them winning. So they put Gay 3rd so they could get pass the stick before asafa giving them a chance to win which they did. Did you not read that in my comments??USA was trying to win,key word WIN.
@dls2779 lol what are you talkin about? Bolt's split in Berlin was 9.12. And you said there were competitive sprinters on 3rd which is why it would be risky to put Gay anywhere else, but thats not true at all, Carter (who ran 3rd in Osaka) wasn't a threat back in 07, same goes with Zurich last year where Steve Mullings, also not a threat, ran on 3rd for Jamaica, so competition obviously has nothing to do with why the Jamaicans and Americans use that strategy with Bolt and Gay.
@dls2779 I guess we just have two different philosophies in the 4x4. Usually the strongest runners run the anchor (to finish strong) and 2nd leg (the longest leg in the race). The way I see it, when the fastest runner is placed third, they want to make sure the lead on the final leg, however, that does not secure a win. If there is another Bolt out there on the final leg, they could catch up to them...But we see it differently.
@phastman1994 You act like I was wrong, Bolt's split for World Championships was a 9.3. Sounds disappointing right..And you said Carter wasnt a factor..lol. and what the heck are you saying?there were competitive sprinters running 3rd leg and thats why they put gay there or not?? your statements are confusing. I think you proven my point. To win against competition is different from going for a world record. You should know that.

@dls2779 If Bolt and Gay weren't such dominant curve runners they probably would be on 2nd or anchor.
