Midnight, West 4th station. I'm standing on the platform waiting for train and I hear this beautiful operatic voice echoing through the station. I walk down and see this old black woman on the other side of the tracks singing and playing single notes on a little keyboard. I stood and listened for a while, then ran up the stairs and to the other side so I could express my gratitude, and film her. She had homemade cds that I glanced at and hoped to remember her name but it's gone from me now. As I ran off to catch my approaching train on the other track she smiled and waved bye to me.

  • I saw her Thursday and thought about her today! Looking for more of her! I got a couple of seconds of her on video, but haven't learn how to upload!

  • I was reading a chapter in Augusten Burroughs' book, You Better Not Cry. In the chapter he describes meeting a black homeless big boned lady that sung opera. I mean who knows, that could be the very lady in the story, then again it is NYC, so.

  • WHAT SONG IS THIS? I need to hear it again! Who is this lady? I want to hear more from her!

  • She was on the #2 train yesterday. Her voice was very light. I do not know if she is actually homeless. Just because someone has a cup in their hand doesn't qualify them as being homeless or poor necessarily. She is talented though.

  • you are amazing for capturing this woman. i saw her at the 14th street F and have been trying to find her again ever since. there's something magical about her.

  • I miss this lady!!! I have not seen her in some time

  • Yes she does sound like Denyce a little. Its wonderful. Kinda otherworldly.

  • Wow she sounds like DEnyce Graves!

  • This woman has TALENT! It's such a shame that artists nowadays can barely sing and can have a hit record and this woman can really, really sing and she's homeless. It makes no sense.

  • nice...i saw her today....lmaooo
