Simple .Lower string is subjected to only tension T but upper string is subjected to Tension (T) + weight (W) thts why string brakes, i believe inertia has nothing to do with it or very negligible.

@4fifty8 He explained the different between weight and inertia. Mass and inertia are largely interchangeable terms.
