This is the very first R&R song I heard ,when I changed the radio station on our radio in the apartment in the Edenwald Houses around 1955 . I was blown away ! I still love this song.

Perhaps they figured rearranging for four part harmonies would be economical.

I found this info:
Helen Gathers left the group for good in 1962, Jannie Pought died in 1980 and Laura Webb passed away just last year, 2001. The two original lead singers, Emma Pought Patron and Reather "Dimples" Dixon Turner, are carrying on with the group with two new singers, Debra Thompson and Pamela Tate.

What an outstanding performance! A great record to begin with years ago, and such a fine energetic performance now! Long live the Bobbettes and Mr. Lee!

This tune came out when I was in junior high. I still think it exemplifies early rock and roll and was certainly one of the best ever recorded. It's pure, raw rock and roll with very few impediments to a true sound of the early days. There are certainly others, but this is definitely one of my very favorites. Too bad they couldn't come back with more great tunes. So many "one hit wonders" back then.
