Into the RCA Nashville recording studios on May 26, 1963 with Elvis Presley and the Jordanaires as they record "(You're the) Devil In Disguise". Although the song would peak at #3 during the summer of '63 on the U.S. pop charts, a British television program entitled "Juke Box Jury" with John Lennon as a celebrity guest gave the recording a thumbs down as it was previewed then. Lennon explained, "Elvis sounds like Bing Crosby now".

  • This was the first Elvis 45 I bought back in NY at age 12 and little did I know that until 68 Elvis put out no new studio material because the Colonel saw the receipts going down so he only made movies and movie soundtracks There were few quality songs on the soundtracks and RCA went back to the vaults for material This was Elvis' last recording session meant for strictly single and LP production the Colonel thought there was too much Elvis product what an idiot Lennon was wrong in this case!!!!

  • @cazonetta Nobody can touch this man.

  • Lennon never came close to the greatness of Elvis. What did he know.

  • * * * * *

  • Crosby NEVER sounded so good. Lennon was well-known for acerbic temperament calling some of Paul's all-time classics trash, so go figure. The King still stands crowned with this one - nice stuff.

  • This song reached number 1 in the British charts despite the thumbs down from John Lennon, and too right as well, it's a great song!

  • Cool....
