This presentation was initially intended to be delivered at the January 2012 BroNYCon, but was delayed due to technical issues. As promised, I've now put it online instead. To preserve the idea of a live rendition, I did this in one take and only one recording, so please forgive the screw-ups, of which there are likely many. And while we're on the subject, apologies for the terrible jokes, too.

Some legal blurbage (not that this would prevent anyone from suing me if they felt it was necessary, but here goes): unless otherwise noted -- and I've tried to cite appropriately -- the images used in this presentation are frames taken from the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which is the copyrighted property of Hasbro, Inc. I assert no ownership over said images, and use them -- and all other images -- here solely for non-profit educational purposes, as permitted under the fair use provisions of US Copyright Law outlined in 17 U.S.C. § 107. If you feel anything is improper, please get in touch with me using the contact details given at the end of the presentation. Cheers.

Close. Pontifex Maximus was the highest Roman religious position, but it was (at least theoretically) separate from the political sphere and set of offices until the time of Augustus, when it became one of the new emperor's many titles. That's the quick explanation, anyway.

I think this was a great idea and it is a great video but I believe at times you just rambled (ex--The explanation of the allusion behind Fluttershy and the Manticore) and really needed to get to the point. At those points, I almost left the video. Also I think you should've involved more than just Greco-Roman mythology. The tales of Svaðilfari, Sleipnir and the Valkyries from Norse mythology could easily be added and be great additions the Earth Pony segment and possibly the pegasi segment.

The connections between Norse mythology and MLP will be the subject of my upcoming Everfree Northwest presentation. I agree that there's a lot that can be discussed there.

Great video! I love this kind of in-depth analysis.

They're ionic columns, by the way. I feel kind of lame for knowing that XD

I loved it, I would love to hear you do a presentation on ponies and the mono-myth. This show is why I reread joseph Campbell's hero with a thousand faces.
