So, here is a video snippet I want to share. I had *just* missed Mansfield (the Vole) running around and turned my recording software on in case the little bugger returned. Instead, I caught Lily sniffing and digging, sniffing and digging for a full 13 minutes, intently. I wonder if she is smelling a Mansfield nest? I have been seeing the little bugger run and disappear in that right hand side of the screen quite often. While recording...and talking on the phone...I noticed what I thought was a baby run down into a hole. After processing this, I went back to that spot and while it only lasts about 4 frames, the movement of it just does not seem like what a rock would do. I am wondering IF it is a baby? They have about 4 litters a year, not sure if they do in the cold of winter or not, but this could be an interesting den cam year...babies everywhere, if this is the case!

At the end of the video I slow the speed down so you can see better.

  • That looked like a baby to me. Looks like Lily had scraped it out of the nest. I guess we should change the adult vole's name from Mansfield now that we know it's a female with babies!
