"This is the biggest animal rights scandal since the Michael Vick case.
This is slaughtergate," says Steve Long.

Julie Caramante is an animal cruelty investigator for the organization called Animal's Angels and she often works undercover.

She said that it took her three years to obtain photos that document violations of the transportation of horses taken to Beltex between January and November of 2005.

"I saw horses that were dead in trailers, with their legs ripped off, with their faces smashed in, eyeballs dangling, and these horses, some of them were still alive. They were just standing there," said Caramante.

Many of the injuries reportedly occurred when the horses were transported on double-decker trailers designed to haul cattle.

"They feed them and get them fattened up. The ones that live go to El Paso and then off to the plant in Mexico," said Caramante

While it's currently illegal to slaughter horses for human consumption in Texas, 11 News has found that at least two states are considering measures that would make it legal.

  • @kaleighfoley Yes these news anchors are not reporters

  • Here in the states, horses are only slaughtered for dogfood

  • @MrCervantesx69st That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! If someone couldn't own a horse, they should consider taking it to a facility or rescue instead of sending an innocent life to the slaughter house for cash. People also steal horses who are loved and cared for out of their owners backyard for more cash. It is absolutely disgusting as any other animals slaughter. I also am just watching this video for information. I've already participated in many animal rights programs.

  • Seriously would you rather have these horses starve to death with someone who cant afford to maintain it? If you care so dam much get off fucking youtube and do something about it.

  • americans slaughter people and start wars everywhere cant they take this on their shoulders too ?? its weird and funny how they pretend to be the most peaceful & legit nation!! ah ah doesnt suit you dawg!! youre well known for your cruelty since the period of slavery !

  • @oden010 Some people cannot under ANY cercomestances own a horse because they can simply not afford one. But that doesn't stop them and many are signing petitions to try to do everything they can to help.

  • there is no humane slaughter of animals in this country. the term "humane slaughter" in and of itself is an oxymoron. disgusting. to texasprincess21- PAY TAXES? really??? pull your head out of your ass and start caring for others besides yourself...

  • @oden010 they dont want a horse and probably dont have enuff sense to take care of one.All they want to do is raise hell about something they know nothing about.Horses suffer more with no slaughter laws.

  • @texasprincess21 hahaha you tell them

  • To the people that find this wrong: Please go to Mexico and try to change this!! Take the Shark people with you. I am sure the Cartels will be more then willing to help you make this change! Put this on the news....Americans can not change everything in other cultures. It may be wrong but you cannot change everything...and comparing humans to animals? let them pay taxes then we will talk.
