my game gear has the same problem but before it broke it started getting little blue dots all over the screen then it made a sizzling sound and stoped working so i replaced all the caps and it still didnt work so i just bought another one and kept the broken one for parts
Don't worry and don't throw it away. Just change the capacitors like 2 bit Gaming says how and everything will be fine. I had the same problem,I replaced all the capacitors and now it's ok...
Further to my comment: The repair does involve soldering. If you are under 18 get an adult to help you. Usual disclaimer. The capacitors can be had off Ebay UK for 7 GBP or can be got from your local electronics store (mine dissappeared a few years back...). You need a 4.5mm GAMEBIT from Ebay to open the GG case. Good luck with the repair. I am looking to eventually replace my screen with a modern TFT (GG uses passive matrix). If you need any help repairing it, contact me. Cheers.
Hi, re: your game gear with the screen problem, it looks just the same as mine just went like the other night. The cause is one of the surface mount capacitors failing. Switch off immediately and don't run it any more so electrolyte doesn't get much chance to leak out of the capacitor to corrode and damage your PCB. You can fix this problem with 12 new capacitors (do a youtube search for "Game Gear screen" or Google "Game Gear screen repair" (or fix)).
