Here is my (first) Babington burner, It uses whatever waste oil I have around the house/shop. It can use bacon grease, lard, any type of cooking oil, Transmission fluid etc... I have yet to incorporate my ignition system due to lack of high voltage wire at this time. .

  • It is a 9kw NST power supply, I have never thought of that as a source of HV wire... hmm. I have scrapped this as a "Babington Burner" and used the blower/oil tank for an "Oil fired forge" that I am working on... I'll post a video of it soon.

  • bahhaha jazzington just got that!

  • Quite the result from simple motor oil. Did you filter your oil? Did you ever use this unit to heat your shop? Im working on a similar project with an old friend from way back, you know the type? I can agree with 69furball69 (funny name, but cute) It is a good idea just to pull apart an old car and use the coil and spark plug wires as a source of ignition.

  • What kind of voltages are you talking about for the igniter? A readily available source of high voltage cable is spark plug wires. The thicker they are the higher the voltage rating should be. They should be good for at least 30 KV.
