Conservative Historian Andrew Bacevich Warns Against Obama's Escalation of War in Afghanistan and Intensifying Use of Air Power in Region

Less than a week after US air strikes killed over a hundred Afghan civilians, President Obamas top security adviser, General James Jones, said Sunday that the US will continue its strikes in Afghanistan, despite sharp criticism about rising civilian casualties from Afghan President Hamid Karzai. We speak to Boston University professor and retired military colonel Andrew Bacevich about why Obamas plans in Afghanistan and Pakistan are counterproductive. [includes rush transcript]

  • "...that sees history as a tragic story." That is why I worship only the future. The future allows infinite possibilities, so why not take responsibilities for our own futures by making the world better now?

  • This conversation between Goodman and Bacevich illustrates the marketing of American consumption via a historical economics of exceptionalism initiated by an earlier American engine of production: the military industrial complex now become the military market nexus (Philip Bobbitt: The Shield of Achilles: War, Peace and the Course of History ).

  • Wow how refreshing...I knew I wasn't crazy :)) This man has integrity in every sense of the word....a great man.

  • 5:38 <- Absolutely.

I was talking about this very sort of things the other day with some friends; Seems that the role of religion , political figures/doctrines and some philosophical constructs (determinism , fatalism etc.) are conscious or unconscious way to avoid a guilt/responsibilities.

So if you get into trouble then it was predetermined, fate or god or some none sense , however if you did something good, then its all me in my unique magnificent capacities.

We need more conser. like that
