At halftime of the Saint Mary's basketball game on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, Ashley Peterson '10 was recognized for her outstanding athletic and academic accomplishments while at the College. Peterson was the 2010 MIAA Sheila Wallace Kovalchik Award winner, which is presented annually to the outstanding female scholar athlete within the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. She was selected from among her peers at the nine member institutions as last year's recipient. After MIAA Commissioner Dave Neilson formally presented Peterson with the award, she became the first softball player in school history to have her jersey retired.
