  • Not much connection to actual hula, but quite enjoyable Hollywood glamor stuff!

  • @hebneh Yes I think there is a full version around somewher on the internet, this routine is just the third segment, she actually starts off with a beatful drum dance, hula and then finishes with taps which is this segment you see, very soon I'll be uploading the full version.

  • Note...this is the excerpt shown in THAT'S DANCING. The number is actually much longer and can be seen on VHS (no DVD yet).

  • Yes I'll be uploading the entire full drum, hula, tap dance very shortly...

  • Amazing.... I just love all the pirouttes she does..!

    *_*

i guess i can do that! lol

  • If you have a chance to see many other clips of her, you'll see that she was pretty much steel from head to toe! Ellie says that one of her nicknames was "the iron woman" because she NEVER took a day off. She was a tremendous athlete, able to dance nonstop and able to excel at a wide variety of physical feats, but with such grace and ease that she made it all look soooo easy!

  • Another amazing talent is in that movie: Douglas McPhail who had his biggest part in Judy Garlands/Mickey Rooneys "Babes in Arms" together with his wife Betty Jaynes and again in "Little Nellie Kelly". He can be heard here in this movie in the background singing (with Betty). Also he can be heard in "Broadway Melody of 1940" and in the Entrance Scene of "Lucy James" in Eleanor Powell movie "Born to Dance" in 1936.

  • What a gem for her time. Astaire danced with here once and never again. She completely upstaged him and he would never do it again.

  • @hajune your commentary is very interesting,,indeed!!. have u something to do with ballet?...very interesting!!. carlos

  • FYI: Honolulu is on Turner Classics this week (end of March 2011). I've got it setup for taping on my DVR.
