  • beautiful light! i think you should show how it does the wig wag action, that would be cool!

  • Sorry but I would have to open up the gear box and could possibly damage the light.

  • Thanks

  • Awesome!

This one is speedy too, love the 5-0 theme!

  • ahhh yess the good ol days of that light cool theme for the video

  • @BluegrassFilmsKY They are *still* great lights even today though.

For those who can't imagine what makes them reciprocate like that, it's really a simple method used for this. There's a regular 360 degree motor inside that has a pivoting two-piece arm of specific lengths that makes it rotate only so far, then go back the other way. It may seem difficult to do but it really is not. If you saw one with the cover off you would clearly see how it works and say to yourself, "that's all it is?" :)

  • @thebakerman1 Actually it was one super beacon ray and one regular beacon ray, I guess they got them mixed up during installation.

  • @BluegrassFilmsKY That's nice to hear they STILL use these old lights then!

  • @thebakerman1 Louisville fire dept used them in the 70's and 80's. Just a few years ago I saw two on an 80's Seagrave at a fire scene on the news.

  • Michigan State Police in the 70's used this light; Federal # 174 in red

  • H50 is the ONLY place I've ever seen this light used. I always thought maybe they reversed the opening part of the show momentarily to make it look as though the light actually went back and forth like that. Later on in the 80's I realized this was a real emergency light that actually reciprocated like this vs. rotating 360 degrees. Like several other models, such as the Mars light, the 174 Super Beacon Ray is one of those really interesting emergency lights.

  • does it it rotate all the way, or just like that?

  • ehh that's ok, i didn't know if it could be done, like that feller that has that Mars light on here that he shows how it does the Figure 8. anyways, thanks!
