@fnb16 If you don't have any other symptoms then you're probably not autistic. I'm 18 and I've hand-flapped since I was 18 and I'm not. I'm desperate to know what's caused it though! So interesting to watch someone else doing it. I always thought it was just me. :p

i am not autistic, but i love hand-flapping! i control it when im in public though. but when im in my room, i grab a magazine and just flap to it. :] im glad to see there is a parent that kind of understands handflapping and isnt embarassed.

some lovely responses on here. nice to know that you all enjoy 'flapping' and to hear that it is simply for pleasure :) my son does this when hes excited, i love to watch it, lets me know hes happy!

@MargotMilevaZ Not for me because my son has grown with it. I can always spot a flapper at 20 paces though lol but no, I don't think it's weird.

@fnb16 I'm 15 and flap my arms all the time. It is fun. =D I do admit, I do it in public, but I could probably stop if I really wanted to. Haha.
Just wondering, but is stimming that weird to watch from a non-hand flapper's perspective? If so, whoops. D:

this seems normal to me .dont people do that when they get excited or frustrated ........ if that "handflapping" is autistic behavior then what would be normal to do when your watching something exciting, ... sit there like a robot and restrain your hands????

@shaniminaj23 Stimming is not something autistic people can control, esp at a young age. That is how he displays emotions because he can't tell me if he's excited, he also does it when hes' stressed or sad. Its people like you that I like to educate because it isn't as simple as just 'flapping' your hands. The National Autistic Society website is a good source of material if you're interested in learning more.

He is very cute :) What kind of hobbies does he like to do? My brother is 16 and has autism. He loves to watch trams. And he is afraid of the dark.

@sindynr2 He loves cars and lego (he's incredibly imaginitive with lego...and they say people with autism lack in imagination, I have to disagree!) He used to be afraid of the hoover and hairdryers/hand dryers but its not so bad now. He hates swimming, the echo of the indoor pools frightens the bejeezus out of him.
