NBC sinks deeper into TV ratings despair

In the 1980s and 90s, NBC was a ratings powerhouse. But when its landmark shows left the air, the network's luck ran out.

NBC fell to 4th place in 2004 and has remained largely there ever since.

Down 9% from last year, NBC's Fall season has been a disaster. New shows have been cancelled and old shows are languishing.

NBC will air the Super Bowl and the Olympics in 2012, but the ratings relief they provide will be short-lived.

Can the Comcast front office turn NBC around, or have they bought a $13 billion dollar lemon?

Well NBC has community and thats one of the funniest shows on network television. While CBS has 2 1/2 men which is horrible yet rakes in the ratings. Go figure.

@IloveLipstickJungle, don't get me wrong because I'm also really looking forward to Smash, but one hit show is in no way enough to turn around the train wreck that is NBC. NBC is getting beaten by the CW and Univision and the cable networks in the ratings at this point. They really need some serious help and even if Smash is a huge hit, it can't save the network alone.

@jlotus100 The Big Bang Theory tries to hard imo. Somethings on that show are funny other things are clearly nerd humor targeted at people who arent nerds which makes no sense at all. Community at least knows who their audience is and really just sticks to that formula.

Wow, that is one huge ass lemon LOL.

I love this video. I love how Cosby, Frasier, Friends and Cheers are holding up NBC wearing the Nielsen crown and then they disappear like pallbearers who drop a casket. Heh.
