This recording is a pre-production montage of the songwriting process. This is just a one track live performance recorded on a hand-held Zoom H4 digital unit. The final will appear on the first Lonely Mountain Band CD. The Lonely Mountain Band is a musical project created by members of the Celtic Rock band "FATHOM". The creative venture is inspired by a love for Tolkien's works. The title of the music project is named after the singer's LOTRO kinship.

In J. R. R. Tolkien's The Two Towers (the second volume of The Lord of the Rings), Aragorn sings a song about the kingdom of Rohan, A Lament for Eorl the Young:

Where now the horse and the rider? where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harp-string, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.
Who shall gather the smoke of the dead wood burning?
Or behold the flowing years from the Sea returning?

  • This is really cool! Much better than I expected it to be...

  • Tolkien was a Genius no one will ever write a book like his again

  • I love this it's awesome is there anyway that I could get the chords?! I've been looking and looking but can't find them!!!

  • The actual poem is adapted from an Anglo-Saxon poem called the wanderer. It was a battle lament. "Where the giver of treasure, where the horse and rider, where the seat at feasts, alas maille clad warrior, alas bright cup, alas proud prince they are gone under nights helm as if they had not been" for more information watch a great drama called '1066 battle for middle earth' using us extras and those for Norman and viking armies it shows the events that caused englands death. great video!

  • this is preatty professional.Gratz.love it

  • @LonelyMountainBand I have many friends who are huge LOTR fans, so I have passed the video along!

    Best of luck to you all. I look forward to the album. It's so nice to find something ahead of time, instead of my usual habit of discovering things way after everyone else has discovered them!
