This report was made in the 1990s about the group. At the time, the McIntosh County Shouters were the only ring shouters in North America. Since then, other groups have sprouted up in an effort to imitate them. The people in this group are the AUTHENTIC ring shouters. They have been photographed by Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Tyler Hicks, interviewed by CNN and NY Times, had a book written about them (Shout Because You're Free), had a CD recorded with the Smithsonian, performed at the Library of Congress and JFK Center in DC, performed on HBO's Unchained Memories, and so much more. They are well known amongst the world's most revered ethnomusicologists, folklorists, linguists, historians.
