Following all the media hype (Telegraph, The Times, Daily Mail, Daily Express) about 'empty tents' at OccupyLSX we decided to check out whether their thermal imaging evidence was true.

We got hold of *exactly* the same thermal imaging camera and showed that - surprise, surprise - you can't tell when people are in their tents.

So don't believe the lies - come down to OccupyLSX and join the vibrant community of people working for a better world. http://occupylsx.org

  • Damn! now every criminal running around at night being hunted by the sky filth will be running into the nearest tent

  • OMG! You mean a good tent doesn't let all the heat out? Who would ahve thought it?

    Good video.

  • I have to say that thermal imaging cameras detect surface temperature, they cannot see you in the tent but they will see the tent heat up. This would happen if you stayed in your tent for an extended period of time. Don't think you are clever by disappearing for 10 seconds. Go and learn how heat is transferred and dissipated.

  • To those saying that this video does NOT disprove the Telegraph, Times, Daily Mail, Daily Express - please head on over to the ORIGINAL VIDEO for proof (Thermal imaging at protest camps shows....mp4) 0:42 - A person is stepping out of a tent. The tent is completely black, you can only see the parts of the person who are OUTSIDE the tent. Their leg which is still inside the tent cannot be seen at all. Is that NOT proof enough that the original video does not prove the tents are empty as claimed.

  • nice one :-)

  • @scowi3 Okay one last try: you can not heat a tent more than your body loses. In a open volume, like a tent, that heat lose is spread evenly by entropy then it heats the face of the tent. You are just desperately grasping at straws and wasting my time. Or put even more simply, when you sleep at night under blankets do you heat the wall of your room any significant amount? No.

  • @rober1236jua It's not the volume that matters but the mass of fluids. Anyway you are forgetting that us warm-blooded creatures generate heat constantly and we have to lose this heat to our environment to stay alive. You are the one who needs to go back to school.

  • @scowi3 Ok lets try again. Your body is about 20 gallons volume. A tent has about 1,000 gallons. The laws of thermodynamics mean that your body must loss a degree per unit volume for each rise in the environment. So if you lose 1 C of temp to the air the tent will rise by 1/50 C. To raise the surface of the tent 1 C you will die. Don't they even teach science in school anymore, Conservative ideas is the science of stupidty

  • @transientdreams The only liars and idiots involved here are the ones who made this video. The telegraph never claimed that it was possible to see someone in a tent with thermal imaging. They claimed you could tell if a tent is being slept in or not by it's heat trace. This has not been proved wrong. So im gonna give the newspaper the benefit of the doubt and assume that protesters really were protesting "by proxy", by erecting a tent and buggering off elsewhere.

  • @rober1236jua It doesnt need to be warm. If it's warmer than the ground, which it probably will be, it *will* show up on thermal imaging

  • @rober1236jua It doesn't matter how good your sleeping bag, you are still gonna be losing heat to the air around you and the tent itself. In fact, if you didnt you'd die from heat exhausion. Us warm-blooded animals need to lose heat to our environment to stay alive since we cant switch off our heat-generating metabolisms. Sleep in a tent for hours and it *will* heat up enough to be detectable.
