@muzzlepuncher7 I'm a bit messed up, I was in the lower grades when Canada made the change to Metric. I use feet and inches for length, miles for distance, Centigrade for temperate outside and Fahrenheit for the temperature of water. Grams and kilograms for measuring my food, pounds for how heavy stuff is. I kind of live in both worlds...

@airgunfun2112 I guess the law can be understood to be read as hitting a threshold of higher then 500fps as long as you do not exceed 5.7 foot pounds or up to 500 FPS as long as you do not exceed 5.7 foot pounds. It should really just be based on the foot pound energy and not the fps.

@switchingtomac Yes, that is from the publication link I just sent you.
My point is that they could make it very simple and just use the widely available cphp pellet and avoid all the overcomplication, therefore they would have a general public that would be able to more easily comply.

@airgunfun2112 A weapon not designed or adapted to discharge a shot, bullet or other projectile at a muzzle velocity exceeding 152.4 m per second or at a muzzle energy exceeding 5.7 Joules is deemed not to be a firearm. The intention was to exempt a weapon if it satisfies one of the two standards. Thus, even if the weapon discharges lightweight pellets at a speed exceeding the maximum set out in the exemption, it may still be exempted if it does not exceed the new muzzle energy standard.

Alot of jibberish at the above url. All they would need to do is delare a widely available pellet in Canada like the CPHP in .177 and .22 cal. the standard pellet airgun fps is judged by things would be pefectly clear to Canadian residents and importers.
