Showcase of the dynamic weather system for the game Elium, an indy/hobby RPG game in the works using the UDK. It's an incomplete WIP with bugs but I'm happy with it :)
It shows transitions between a Fine weather, Foggy, Cloudy, Rainy, a Rainstorm, back to Cloudy, a Snow storm (with snow building up on the land), and back to Fine weather (with snow thawing and disappearing)
Transitions have been drastically sped up for video-time purposes. For this video the different weather states are activated manually, but in the game they all change dynamically via certain patterns and conditions.

  • You did all this yourself? Well done, my team and I are planning to make an MMO using UDK.

  • @MrBufellow yes it's all my work! :)

good luck, but UDK is no good for MMO's unless you buy a full license

  • What other software than UDK did you sue to develop this, im currently studying game design & development and would like to start work on an indie title too but not too sure how to start other than learn the UI and level editor of UDK, im a total n00b when it comes to making static meshes of my own or rigging them

  • @jamesAboy19 nothing too complex about software: UDK, a text editor for scripts, your favorite 2D graphics program for textures, a 3D modelling package for models.

  • is it possible you can make a tutorial on this? I have a team making a horror game and we're wanting dynamic weather. This is exactly what we're looking for and it doesnt have to look perfect either! Great Job!!

  • @CloudandZack1st This one involves a lot of stuff: modelling/uvmapping, shaders, materials, world objects, unrealscript and all that ties it in. it's too complex so I don't have time for it, sorry
