Father Dom was among the many rappers who came out of Oakland's hip-hop scene, but on his self-titled debut album, the MCs he brings to mind are Long Island natives and EPMD members Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith. Like EPMD, Dom combines a relaxed, deadpan style of rapping with tough-minded lyrics--he doesn't hesitate to let the "sucker MCs" know how little he thinks of them. However, it's easy to tell Dom and EPMD apart; Dom's tracks tend to be more jazz-influenced
