It's been a year since you asked this, but a "hikikomori" is a Japanese term for basically a person who shuts him- or herself away from the outside world, like a recluse or a hermit.

"It" doesn't really refer to persocoms. "It" is the image that we create of the person we love; that image is created because love tends to twist our perception, so this can't be a complete "person" because it isn't all real, we add to "it" some qualities, qualities that make us feel good, like in a dream. We know that "it" can't become a person or rather we don't want it to, the moment that "it" becomes a "person" it loses the ability to make us feel in a dream, we see it for what it is.
