Huddy Ledbetter (Lead Belly) wrote this tune way back in the day. Way back before we had the media and meteorologists to scare the crap out of the public, this song was an important staple of Lead Belly's sets. The song has been covered time and time again by the likes of Pete Seeger and the Weavers, Frank Sinatra, Tom Wait, and even the Meat Puppets.
I took the liberty of changing the lyrics a bit to accompany the times, enjoy!
Irene good night Irene good night
Good night Irene Good night Irene
I'll see you off to see the sea
Last Saturday night got hammered
Me and the coast settled down
Now me and my baby haven taken on water
I'm gonna float my way downtown - Chorus
Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I'll live in town
Sometimes I take a great notion
To get up and move to a cave - Chorus
Quit your rambling quit your gambling
Stop baiting that fish called fate
Stay home with your wife and family
And we'll dry out in a few Saturday - Chorus
