J'aime cette chanson, particulièrement quand Mirelle la chante. L'émotion, la passion! Elle est magnifique sans aucune doute.

Pourrait servir d'hymne national. De mon point de vue plus juste que la Marseillaise.

Because a Revolution is always brutal! French revolution had to fight against the whole european monarchies, and it won!

It won? When Napolean crowned himself & made himself a king by another name? Or when he was driven back to Paris & taken prisoner by those kings? Was his empire more free then those kingdoms; such as Britain, or Holland, or Sweden or Denmark? For that matter, was the French Empire more liberal then the Borbonne kingdom?

I agree with you, Napoleon stopped the ideals of the french republic. At the same time, he was a great general and France needed it at this time.She was invaded. I agree that England was more free than Napoleonic state, but all Europe still had servage, the jewish people were not emanciped, no laws garanteed to people against king, no constitution. All of this was garanted by Napoleon.I think he was at the same time a dictator ending the revolution and the son of it.
History is complex...

@sirupeuse
That Napoleon was tactically brilliant on the battle field is all too obvious. Whether or not that translated into a substantive strategic vision is another matter. But Nappy's genius only served his own egotism. Which shows God's mercy in filly the world w/ so many idiots. Give some poeple genius & they will only be more clever in finding ways to screw up theirs & everyones life.
But, this is a pretty sanguinary song.
