On a Nikon body you need to use A for Aperture Priority.

Gordon .. You might want to teach people Manuel mode instead of them auto modes

I personally think it's important to use the technique and mode which gives you the desired result in the easiest way. For most types of photography, the manual mode is overkill in my view, and certainly not necessary for blurring the background on portraits. But it is essential for night photography which is why I used it in my night photography tutorial. Hope that makes sense!

Get yourself the 50mm f1.8 II - great - and affordable - portrait lens for your body! This is also ideal for any Canon cropped-frame APS-C body. If you have more to spend, get the f1.4 version.

I really like the way Gordon explains that it's a larger aperture, but a smaller F number. People, like myself, get confused when it's worded larger aperture and they think it's a large F number. I have it now, but this is very good for those starting out.

    Thank you Gordon!
