@sergeonyt The system actually automatically reserves a slot for joining players. My problem ended up being that it doesn't work with Firefox -- switching to Internet Explorer solved the issue. Or rather, spending 5 minutes convincing EA that I was logged in on IE and I wanted to play solved the issue.
I then was unable to go to true fullscreen, only able to make the window in which I played the game the size of my screen (so Crossfire didn't kick in). Oh, and the game crashed.

@nonano5 Too late, I bought BF3 when it was on sale for PC somewhere for like 30 bucks or something like that, works just fine. Annoying that I have to quit the game to enter a new server, but it's whatever. While I wish it wasn't as integral to the actual gameplay, even I'll admit that Battlelog is pretty neat in terms of keeping track of your stats, checking for weapon unlocks, etc.
