I have a friend who was raised in China, and she firmly believes that this what a peaceful confrontation, that no-one was hurt by police, etc. She also doesn't believe the western newcasting that around the time of the SARS outbreak people in China were getting in trouble for texting friends and relatives to stay away. Whatever China's official story is, she believes. They've been known to deny natural disasters.
