On her first time ever speaking from the House floor, Representative Jean Schmidt causes a commotion by violating the tradition against personal attacks from the floor, accusing Rep John Murtha, a decorated Vietnam Veteran, of cowardice. Immediately afterward, she recants, and asks that her remarks be withdrawn from the record.
Oddly, the person she "quoted" claims never to have made the statement attributed to him. It is one of a series of bizarre fabrications attrbuted to Ms. Schmidt.
