http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2011/01/30/dirt-cheep-monitor-project/ I've been getting a lot of request to see this little monitor up close. I didn't have a chance after putting this together to film this monitor in use. So here you are.

I will note that it's hard to properly expose a video monitor, and the color ends up looking a little bit blown out in parts of this video. In its defense, this monitor looks just fine. Are the colors perfect? Probably not, but this monitor does a great job for its size and price.

My cellphone is heavier then this monitor which means no real extra weight added to your current setup. In fact you could probably get away with mounting this and a microphone on your camera's hot shoe without any problems.

If you still have questions about this monitor just send me a message and I'll see if I can help you out.

Equipment used in this video:
Canon 7d & t2i
Canon 35mm f1.4
Canon 50mm f1.4
Zoom H1
CPM FILM TOOLS camera rig

  • It says car monitor on like every ebaypage... Will this work on a t2i?

  • I can't figure out how to power it? I have the white and yellow output going into my camera t3i, but i'm not sure how to power tho monitor. Thoughts and help would be appreciated!

  • @gzeus I'd like to know the answer to this question too!

  • @gzeus they only output SD when recording. In a static shot nothing really changes so you wont really need that high res after you start recording, in a run and gun scenario the movement would be too fast for the high res to really be helpful as all you need would be a basic frame of reference in a large window, and really the only problem is with a slow but large scale moving shot where you need all the detail you can get but you have to be recording to see the whole shot.

    hope this helped.

  • does it come with a battery?

  • Hey I made a video on a DIY build of this monitor with an articulating arm based on DSLR Film Noob's instructions. Check out my channel to see it.

  • whether it can be used 7 inch car monitor(480*232px)? on ebay their price is ~50$

  • "Your T2i, 60D, and 5D Mark II only output standard definition while recording. They simply upscale that resolution to a bigger screen."

In that case, are there still any particular benefits in using a higher res portable LCD screen with HDMI input?

  • I bought this, but how do you power it. i have the battery, just where do i plug it in????
