The distillery at Mount Vernon has re-opened and is making rye whiskey, just like George once did.

  • Farming was big business at Mount Vernon, but not as big as the two fishing boats that hauled Menhadden in the Triangle Trade; which was still not as lucrative as the distillery at Mt. Vernon. Fifty cents for the cheap stuff and one dollar for a gallon of the good stuff.

It was so "popular" that after Washington's death, the still ran for 5 more years!

Peach brandy was second only to rye whisky.

  • I would love to get a bottle some day; but because they only make a few hundred bottles a year, they tend to sell out. Maybe next year. The bottles are expensive as hell though; 85 bucks a pop I think they were, and only 370ml a bottle, its gotta be worth it.

  • Neat Stuff! Can you buy a jug or two there? Was George's white lightning (or other contemporary whiskeys) ever aged in charred white oak barrels?
