  • This song is considered one of the most difficult in the tenor rep. It has very long sustained phrases right through the most difficult parts of the tenor range and for Kraus to sing it at almost half of its regular tempo is nearly superhuman. I've never heard it done this slowly, no one can do it this slowly but him and so beautifully, so powerfully. This is a voice that comes once in a century. Study it well...

  • Best Version ever!!!

  • El que la hace linda es Leopold Simoneau

  • @rafaelpelaezf Pavarotti has already been shown all the respect he deserved, and then some.

I agree with you that Kraus is the best tenor ever. But please show more respect to Pavarotti, another inspired tenor.

  • I agree with Kraustrujillo: this is the best version of this aria. It's even better than the studio recordings sung in French. Kraus was very inpired that evening, it seems! How the hell a human being can sing like this? I really don't get it. It's simply a miracle. So effortlessly, as if it were so easy to sing this! Compared to Pavarotti, Kraus is a prince...and Pavarotti a barking dog.

  • If a tenor of the present time can sing 5% as good as Kraus used to sing...he would be the best tenor of the moment.

  • This is incredible. I don't know if I like the slower tempo. Maybe they tried it for dramatic effect, but I do feel it loses its rhythm. The singing, however, is out of this world. The breath control, the consistent color, the effortless movement into the high range. There are other 'special' voices, but no other singer I have heard has the technical consistency of Kraus, married, of course, to a beautiful instrument.
