@Watchenlisten Yes, criticism in artistic music seems rather pointless.
Personally I don't like the terms "Historically informed" or "Authentic" when I comes to music as firstly, I don't think it is possible to reconstruct the style of prior times purely from written sources, and secondly I think as an artist is is important not to let one's own artistic ideas become too stifled.
If people criticise, let them. The diversity of interpretation makes music great.
@wks1978 saying "isn't to everyone's taste," reminds me of those phenomenal, supremely beautiful recordings of some of the Haydn quartets - by the Apponyi Quartet (now defunct apparently - sadly) also master musicians (top "informed" period performance practice) though anyway with such sound, expressiveness and excitement - incisive articulation and pure tone ... then come all these rather unfavourable criticisms from some who won't handle the slightly quicker tempi and energy in the sound :(
You won't see the Bass played better than this, technically or musically by anyone.
Ruiz is phenomenal. Maybe his musical style isn't to everyone's taste, but he takes the bass, a big and difficult instrument to get around, and produces real music of a masterly quality.
Without a doubt one of the best Double Bass players in the world today,.
A very very good bassist, yes. A master? No. Very few people ever deserve the title "Maestro". Edicson is quite accomplished, but he has not yet learned to let the instrument play him instead of him playing the instrument. If he composes, helps to push the instrument beyond where it already has been, and ventures out of classical music with grace and beauty, then, maybe, he'll start to become a master.
