Mikel Robertson, Green Goods, talks about installing a laundry-to-landscape system for homeowners Frank & Andy in San Luis Obispo, California.

Washing machine water flows through a 3-way valve, so that the system can be switched between the landscape and the sewer. Other components such as an air valve and check valve are also needed to make sure that the pump doesn't burn out too early.

  • @johnlvs2run So far, I've not heard of fluoride as a concern in laundry graywater systems. Almost all laundry detergents (even biodegradable ones) contain enough to salt to be an issue for plant health. Salts and other harmful chemicals like bleach should be the main concern and you should focus on designing a system for this. However, any build-up over time of any chemical like fluoride will be something to watch for. If you do find out specifics about it, please let us know. Thanks for asking.
