The fight was not real, but apparently there was a take where choreography was forgotten, things got a little heated and the actors just kept going "Off script" for a bit.

In the top 10 and better than most of the hack and slash fight scenes in recent years, that are poorly shot and edited and you get no sense of what is going on! Just the humble opinion of someone who worked as a professional stuntman, stunt coordinator and fight choreographer for 25 years...Me! :)

Not an official award but an acknowledgment from the Stuntmen's Assoc for a job well done! (There are some real hits in there!).

The story goes that Bruce Lee loved this fight scene and chose Robert Clouse to direct Enter The Dragon because of his work on this film. William Smith was an early choice for Roper, but because he was so huge, the role went to John Saxon! It would have been interesting to see Rod Taylor in that role!...Rod was always great when it came to screen fights!

@FTWEVERYONE Does anyone here get that Taylor was a legit boxing champ before he was an actor? I know how tough Smith was, but why do people talk about Taylor like he was nothing?

Wow, that is a pretty intense scene! Would be even better without the typical 70's music.

I agree! The fight scene IS great and the movie is VERY Overrated. In fact there are Rumors that the fight scene was "Real". Anyone who Actually believes that, is a complete MORON. The producers would NOT risk their money on an idiotic concept like that, also if it were "Real" Bill Smith would STILL be in prison making license plates.besides, there are MANY CUTS in this scene, and camera set-ups which Circumvent that naive thought!

Rod Taylor attacking the legs with that wooden plank! (Smart!)

As scary as William Smith looks, anyone who's a poet (and he is), has to have some sensitivity....:-)

In real life, William Smith is a kenpo black belt and an ex boxer. As great as this fight scene is (for it's brutality!), I'd like to see Mr. Smith (don't believe I called him that!) in a martial arts type choreographed fight scene.

Well, he was up for John Saxon's part in "Enter The Dragon." (He was just too huge. Though in my opinion, he also looked too scary...though of course, I'd never tell him that to his face, because he looks too scary!) LOL!

Trying to fight William Smith would be like trying to ride the wildest bull at the rodeo.
