Steve Spangler goes door to door in effort to make science fun and bring it into viewer's homes.

It's what happens when you take a simple science experiment and blow it up into something that people talk about at the dinner table. The phenomenon is called The Spangler Effect and it's now the concept behind a new YouTube Original Content series which debuts on February 1, 2012 at YouTube.com/TheSpanglerEffect

The Google-owned video site announced last October that it was launching more than 100 new video channels in early 2012 aimed at providing high-quality, niche-oriented content. While most of the 100 partners include well-known Hollywood production companies, celebrities and media groups, Steve Spangler is none of the above... and that's probably why his increasingly popular science videos caught the attention of YouTube.

"We were both shocked and excited beyond belief when YouTube made us the offer to join their new channel line-up," said Spangler, who currently has more than 400 videos available on his existing YouTube channel at YouTube.com/SteveSpanglerScience

YouTube was only five months old when Spangler first taught viewers how to turn a bottle of Diet Coke and a roll of Mentos into an exploding geyser. While Spangler never could have predicted the popularity of his science-related videos, he was confident that posting content to his YouTube channel in those early years was a smart thing to do... and his hunch was right.

"The Spangler Effect is a name that someone once used to describe the effect that Steve has on people who experience his unique way of making science fun," said Bradley Mayhew, Director of Video Production at Steve Spangler Science. "My biggest challenge with the new opportunity is to find a way to capture the energy and excitement that participants experience at one of Steve's live events and share it with this new YouTube audience."

Each weekly episode will put one science experiment, concept, project, challenge or situation under the microscope to learn how and why it's important in our daily lives. At the heart of each episode is a take-away activity that has great wow-factor, but is easy enough for viewers to recreate at home using simple, household items. Sketches and brainstorming ideas quickly make their way from the workshop to a real-world situation that ends with viewers saying, "I can't believe they did that!"

It's no surprise that this approach is the foundation that Steve Spangler has used for twenty plus years to engage students, live audiences and millions of television viewers.

The show launches on February 1, 2012 with weekly episodes to follow. For a sneak peek at Spangler's new show, visit www.youtube.com/TheSpanglerEffect

  • Did not come to a complete stop at the STOP sign! I think that community slammed their doors cause they are tired of lawless criminals running their streets! lol

  • Clearly, this is orchestrated, but very well-done. The script is good, but some actors bailed out because a few of them smiled while closing the doors.

  • for science, you monster

  • come to meee Im take you in

  • so sad hope its fake how can they treat you like that!????

  • Not a good promo for anything.

  • lol very funny

  • Oh my god, I just gained so much more respect for Steve. He knows that science is generally a topic people normally avoid, yet he teaches science (in a fun way, just in case you missed it in the video) for a living.

He could just come right out and say this in front of a camera to inform us, but that would be no fun! What's fun? Making fun of your career on purpose to give people a good laugh and a more positive outlook on science itself.

Genius Spangler! Can't wait till this starts up!
