  • @TheKScott89 Of course they play their best. They can still be a bit more friendly for TV vs. a private cash game. At these rarefied heights, different factors come into play. They are personalities and their income depends on their likability - whether people will want to see them play on TV. I don't think Dwan in "hungry". He already has it made. He just loves the game. It's not like the old days. Dwan is never going to go bust. He is well paid for just showing up at these gigs.

  • @TheKScott89 Yeah but like I said, I think (and I think Dwan thought) that the chances of Negreanu pushing again on the river were negligible - only chance is if he has AK, and then it's a split. Negreanu says at the end that he "knew" Dwan had what he was pretending to have - AK. By "cut-throat", I mean it would be the play to extract maximum value, but it look too money grubby for TV.

  • @roell29 And yes, the show is for entertainment. People want to see the pros play poker like the pros that they are. Professional poker players love the game, play for fun, but also make a ton of money doing it, and the point is to play your best, and make the most you can,and/or lose the minimum. They are all there to make money, they don't look greedy; THEY ALL sitdown with the same amount, ready to play, ready to maybe lose, but to hopefully make a ton of money, and own the show. Dwan Is Hungry.

  • @roell29 And that way he can maybe bluff. if Dwan bets 50k, Negreanu can't try and push him off with only 100k more to raise, pot's already 420k before Negreanu's 100k raise, and Dwan makes it clear he's strong. betting 50k isn't cut-throat, it's stupid. the hands Negreanu would call that with, would bet more if you check to him, or he folds a hand he might have tried to bluff with. Cut-throat is checking the river.

  • @roell29 But that river bet of 50k only gets called when negreanu has a decent hand, when Dwan checks Negreanu can bluff, or value bet a hand that would've called or raise Dwan's bet anyways. the only bet Negreanu can even feasibly make given pot size, and his stack is allin. so allin bluff, or value bet with AJ,JJ,AT, there's a few hands that might just call 50k, but would bet more by itself. and most of negreanu's hands would fold for Dwans bet. A pro wouldn't check behind these hands.

  • @TheKScott89 Ok, the way I see it...after Negreanu bets half his stack on the turn and gets called, Dwan would have figured it highly unlikely that Negreanu would push his last 140k on the river with anything less than AK. So if Negreanu has any kind of hand (which he doesn't), Dwan (If he wants to maximize his yield) could make a value bet of, say 50k, on the river and Negreanu will have to pay him off. That would have been the cut-throat play, I think.

  • @roell29 I think it's more like: Negreanu played it like nuts or nothing, since Dwan has the nuts, when he checks the river and Negreanu has nothing(or shit, see above.) He'll try to bluff, and if Negreanu does indeed have a hand worth value, Dwan can check raise. But what can Dwan expect to call a river bet, that wouldn't be betting anyways, so you check and give the guy some rope with whatever 2 cards he happens to hold. Dwan is cut-throat, I don't think it was a courtesy check, lol.

  • What are the chances that Daniel has something that could beat dwan's hand? Its not that it was a bad bluff, but the timing to do a bluff was just so wrong.

  • @roell29 In a private game it might be different, but this is mostly entertainment. They don't want to look overly greedy.
