  • "it also teaches us to defend our families and friends and self defense."

Where is turning the other cheek? bless them who persecute you?

  • Not everyone that says their a christian does what they should do. Also not everyone that says they are a christian is a true christian.

Why did the USA and other countries carpet bomb the nazi's? A true christian would do what the USA did because the bible teaches us to help the helpless and it also teaches us to defend our families and friends and self defense. jimsanders1

  • This is very practical actually- to be able to respond and not react. That way we can have a measured response that is thought out which many times an enemy does not want because they will be defeated by it. Jesus said to 'overcome evil with good'. This takes time and intelligence- a response and not just a reaction over time will produce the desired outcome- not the evil one- the desired one of peace and love. This is very practical. I apprediate the time you take also to dialogue also.

  • Thank you for the time that you took to make your response. But it's too much deep in philosophy, I'm just interested in the practical use of religion and how it could make a better world for human being. When Islam says no Alcohol allowed, it saves thousands of lives as a direct impact on man and the community. God's teachings should be understood and easy to put in practice.

Loving one enemy, is promoting Evil and could be suicidal in some cases. May God Guide us to the true path.

  • I do not think He meant this so much as sentimental- but as an exercise like flexing an inner muscle that leads to integrity and inner strength- then what comes out will be authentic and measured and the right action. Just some thoughts I got from this study. Thanks for your comments friend.

  • Cont'd-I really think that Jesus meant for us to respond and learn to hold back and detach- rather than just react and become just like dupes- just like an enemy who violates others as a reactionary. As always- Jesus is radical in His statements- and He is after creating people who cannot be controlled- and who are capable of autonomy- which means we must learn self-discipline and emotional detachment from just reacting to others. To be Cont'd...

  • Cont'd- I think Jesus central purpose was to teach detachment and self-discipline- to respond vs. just react in kind. You see this way we are self-determined rather than controlled by others reaction and circumstances. To be Cont'd...

  • It goes back to Jesus meaning, pulling your natural instincts back to ponder what He meant because of the trust we learn to have for Him as our King and Saviour. Why would He tells us something so unnatural to what seems a natural response to violation- which is retaliation in kind. This is what most people think and react out in their own wisdom instead of hold on and make a deliberate choice to be autonomous- and not just react like an automaton.

  • Could you explain the wisdom behind love your enemy? Why USA and other Christian countries didn't love the Nazi in the forties ? Instead they dropped carpet Bombs?
