Electricity is very cheap here, 3 cents KWHr. Natural gas is a block away, used to be avail, but not since 1960. They just finished cleaning up the waste site from dumping sludge last week, after oozing into the river for 45+ years...

ok well whare iam from power is the most costly way to heat.
why not change to natrual gas ?

I'm the landlord, I don't live there. The tenant that's getting the heat is paying for what they use.

correct but if youre boiler is running off her utiltites in the us whare iam from its illegal and you can get sued for it.
if i was youre tennant showing me would just enice me to put code enforcement on youre butt.
youre a land lord pay for youre own boiler .

i tried to tell you its illegal and sooner or later they will get ya.
how ever you can also write in youre lease for that apt that you will reduce the rent to cover the power costs.
but i would put in youre own panel and just spread youre costs over the rents for all of the units.

sorry if i sounded harsh but i hate when landlords don't do this and hope the tennant dosen't notice it.
as long as you copensate her for the add draw for the boiler it's legal to do what you did.
you could allways offer to pay for her power bill and ajust it in you're rent.
