July 11 - A bottled liter of water with a few teaspoons of bleach is proving to be a successful recipe for dwellers in the light-deprived slums of the Philippines. The simple technology is spreading sunlight in places where it has never been, and saving residents money at the same time. Gemma Haines reports.

    @abmac did you see electricity ran to any of those shanties? didnt think so. even if it was, do you think they could afford it? also the creation of jobs in impoverished communities is an amazing thing. the holes also appear to have been sealed, thus no leaks. go grab another footlong, or maybe buy some lightbulbs for someone living in the dark (including possibly yourself) ...

    Laughed at it, my first thought was that it was a hole in the ceiling, with a bottle jammed between.

    It really seems like cutting the bottle in and covering a hole with the plastic would do just as much.
